Story behind WLTA
The West Lothian Toy Appeal is a year-round initiative founded in 1984, and managed on behalf of the community by River Kids since 2011.
Since its inception, it has helped to provide toys and other essential goods for children in need in our community, ensuring that no child goes without gifts at Christmas.
Originally held only once a year at Christmas time, the outpouring of donations, volunteer support and word-of-mouth attention for the Appeal has grown so much that we are now able to run it all year round, ensuring children receive gifts on their birthdays too.
The Appeal benefits those young people and families referred to us in the most need of assistance, with referrals coming from various sources like the Citizens Advice Bureau, health visitors, social workers, family centres, housing associations, homeless units and schools.
